The song received critical acclaim and commercial success. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks in May 2014, becoming Legend’s first and only number-one single in the US. In 2022, the RIAA awarded the song a 14x multi-platinum certification for selling over 14 million units in the US. The song also topped the charts in several countries, such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. It also won two Grammy Awards in 2015 for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
Nabil Elderkin directed the official music video of the song, which shows Legend and Teigen’s romantic moments at their house and during their trip to Italy. The video has more than 2.2 billion views on YouTube as of May 2023. Legend is not the only artist to recently celebrate 2 billion streams on Spotify. Last week, Ed Sheeran announced that his 2017 hit “Shape of You” had reached the same milestone, becoming the most-streamed song on Spotify ever.
Legend is working on his seventh studio album, which he said will be inspired by his personal life and the state of the world. He has also been a coach on NBC’s The Voice since season 16.
