Spotify Camp Nou Ends With Record Attendance
The famous home of FC Barcelona has closed its doors after recording the best average crowd for the league campaign in the 21st century. In the 2022/23 season, the average attendance for Barça games at the stadium was 83,497. On Thursday night’s game with Manchester United, Spotify Camp Nou broke yet another record by attracting an attendance 90,225. Not only were all those fans treated to a veritable footballing feast, but they also helped rewrite the record books.
According to FC Barcelona’s official website, Spotify, Camp Nou established a record attendance with 120,000 fans witnessing the game on 5 March 1986 in a 1-0 win in the first leg of the European Cup quarter-final against Juventus. This record still stands as the stadium’s capacity is no longer as large.
The stadium capacity was reduced to 99,354 after renovations. However, according to FC Barcelona’s official website, this season sees the best average league crowd at the stadium this century, with a figure of 83,497 per game.
Spotify Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona’s home since it was officially opened on 24 September 1957. According to legend, the idea of building a new ground to replace Les Corts was due to the arrival of Ladislau Kubala in 1951 and the need for more seats for people to watch him play. The stadium was also a venue during the 1982 World Cup.
